Adwalker tightens patent protection
Adwalker has this week been granted a British patent for its interactive wearable-media system.
According to the company, the patent – which covers “the apparatus for supporting a mobile electronic display system” and runs until September 2024 – means that Adwalker now has protection for its technology in each of its three main territories: its home country of Ireland, the United Kingdom, and North America.
However, Adwalker is increasingly gaining contracts for its wearable digital signage in other territories, which could lead it to seek additional patent protection elsewhere.
Recent high-profile deployments have included promotion of Castrol in eight Austrian and Swiss cities to tie in with that firm's sponsorship of the 2008 European football championships. Adwalker units also roamed the 19th World Petroleum Congress in Spain on behalf of sponsor Chevron, with an offer that involved giving delegates Wall Street Journal vouchers in return for their personal details.
In Australia, partner firm 808south used Adwalker units to promote the country's army to potential recruits at football games, while the systems have also been used in campaigns in Hong Kong and the Caribbean.
