Touchscreen offers tourist information

Stratford District Council in New Zealand is using a touch-sensitive window display to deliver visitor information throughout the day and night.

A high-bright 32-inch LCD display inside the window of the town’s visitor centre is aligned with transparent touch film fixed to the window’s exterior. A light-adjustment system reduces or increases brightness according to the ambient light – allowing the unit to be sufficiently bright for visibility in full sunlight, yet to become dimmer at night so that its glow is not obtrusive.

The installation required Auckland firm The Complete Package to develop a bespoke content-management system. Said director Kevin Wright: “Because it’s the first installation of its type in New Zealand, we needed to be a bit inventive with hardware and software development.”

Information offered by the system covers local sights, activities and accommodation options.

If this is a VIP touch foil then it is mounted on the inside of the window as the touch system works through the glass, so all the components are safe behind the glass Regards Mike
