Screenmedia Professionals: free conference passes

Thanks to sponsors HP and Intel, we have free passes to one of Screenmedia Expo’s pioneering conferences next week available for our readers: the first-ever Screenmedia Professionals event, held at Earls Court in London on 18 May.

The conference kicks off at 10am with an introduction from Dirk Hülsermann, president of OVAB Europe and manager of DOOH solutions at NEC Display Solutions Europe. He’s followed by Jose Avalos, director of retail and digital signage at Intel, who will talk about the chipmaker’s Connected Store project that combines online, mobile and DOOH technology to provide shoppers with an intelligent interactive experience.

Leo Kivijarv, VP of research at PQ Media, then takes the podium to present a forecast of the European DOOH sector, covering its economic structure, likely trajectory, and place in the broader media landscape.

Mike Fisher, convergence and new technologies consultant at Futuresource Consulting, looks at what’s happening in the displays industry, including the acknowledgement that value is moving away from the display and towards integrated solutions. This session will look at the opportunities for adding value through product innovation in areas such as interactivity, tiled displays, 3D and high brightness.

The morning ends with Christine Outram of the Senseable City Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the most keenly-anticipated speakers at Screenmedia Expo. Her team has been using mobile-phone data to measure audience numbers for digital out-of-home media, as well as the likelihood that certain advertising content might appeal to specific viewers. “This,” she says, “has the potential to push digital out-of-home advertising to the level of Internet advertising.”

In the afternoon, the conference returns to retail, with Ori Bergman from HP’s retail solutions business considering issues such as the integration of point-of-sale systems with digital signage. Also in the afternoon programme, Neil Brown from 3M looks ahead to the digital future; Minicom Digital Signage CEO Ronni Guggenheim promises a major announcement; and Jim Oehler, Harris product manager for digital signage, examines the content-delivery challenges posed by venues such as stadia and arenas.

The day-long programme concludes with Ayuda’s EMEA client services director Madalyn Roker looking at how to link digital out-of-home media with back-office systems to optimise the efficiency of advertising-based networks, before OVAB’s Dirk Hülsermann wraps up proceedings.
