Sky News adds another out-of-home site

Sky News could get a significant boost to its UK viewership through a new deal signed with digital-outdoor operator City Gateway Media.

Each four-minute loop on City Gateway's Manchester Tower screen (pictured) in the eponymous northern English city is to feature 30 seconds of Sky News material.

City Gateway claims the screen reaches 207,000 viewers daily – a substantial number to add to Sky's UK satellite viewership of

Startup relies on locally-produced video

Logix Innovations, a digital-signage startup in the northeastern U.S., is showing original content by independent film-makers in unusual locations that include coffee shops, bookstores and laundromats.

The company has reached 75 sites in the New York area since launching  in March.

India's OOH runs campaigns on terrorism, environment

India's OOH Media is dedicating airtime to social causes and public-service messages under its OOH Cares programme.

OOH Media told SCREENS.tv that it is already showing messages related to public safety in the wake of recent terrorist attacks and threats in India. The message “Keep your city safe, keep India safe” is being aired in several cities.

Digital Signage Network (DSN) India is to display real-time stock-price information on its network of screens in 22 cities, following a deal with the Bombay Stock Exchange – and if the experiment pays off, the network could provide more “utility-based” content in future.

Digital-signage network operators in Europe are improving their understanding of content and their relationship with advertisers – but there is still confusion over return on investment (ROI), according to a report published today by Futuresource Consulting.

UK government to fund digital-signage research

The UK's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is to support academic research into the effectiveness of corporate digital signage.

The government-funded body will fund a three-year PhD studentship at Bangor University in Wales, focusing on the measurement of digital signage's impact on factors such as information retention, staff morale, and absenteeism.

This data will then form the basis of a set of guidelines on best practice

Phone store gets largest outdoor LCD in Australia

Australia's Prime Digital Media has created three digital-signage channels – two indoor and one outdoor – for telco Telstra's new T Life store in Melbourne.

From this week, the store will feature a plasma wall supplied by Corporate Initiatives Asia, used for product demonstrations, promotions and branding; 29 portrait displays split into eight audio zones; and a 2.5-metre-wide, 22-metre-tall vertical strip-format outdoor LCD screen from Screentech, showing a mix
