Hong Kong's TVB goes out-of-home

Hong Kong's Digital Outdoor Television (DOTV) is bringing the high-definition content of the commercial channel TVB to out-of-home locations via its Outdoor HD Corner network.

TVB will be shown at  200 existing and planned DOTV locations, including restaurants, computer centres, CD stores and shopping centres in Hong Kong.

Content will include news and, as a major draw, parts of the Beijing Olympics, which start on 8 August.

LeagueOne targets specialist retailers

India's LeagueOne Marketing Services is planning to expand its in-store network to 5000 outlets this year by focusing on a dozen retail niches.
 
Launched in April 2007, LeagueOne, which currently has one screen in each of 1200 outlets, is planning a pan-India spread across 12 types of store for its LeagueOne Advantage network: department stores, lifestyle pharma, telecom, IT, optical, fashion accessories, hardware and paints, shoes, bathroom fittings, health

JCDecaux shows "subopera" in Shanghai metro

JCDecaux is experimenting in Shanghai with a TV series made especially for the metro stations.

The forty-part A Sunny Day is made up of three-minute episodes, to match the average wait between trains. Each part is shown four times an hour, reaching an estimated 500,000 commuters a day.

The show, which has been dubbed a "subopera" rather than a soap opera, is sponsored by Pepsi and Starbucks.

Wal-Mart Canada turns to animation

Wal-Mart Canada is to use animated characters to promote products and offer customer information on 600 screens in 300 stores by summer 2008.

The digitally-animated material revolves around the character Lisa and her family, and is designed to “build customer loyalty and improve the shopping experience”, as well as advertise products in future.

In Canada, the Wal-Mart TV network is managed by EK3 Technologies and its subsidiary

Say it with digital signage

The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) in Chicago played host to a unique signage experiment last Friday, allowing patrons to message each other via the museum's digital-signage system. As part of the museum's series of First Friday events, registered visitors were invited to text each other -- using their visitor number tags as unique identifiers -- with messages of love, in the spirit of Valentine's Day later this month.

Chinese censors force schedule change for taxi screens

i-level Media Group, which claims to be China's leading digital taxi media company, has had to reschedule a promotion to avoid falling foul of the Chinese authorities.

Tag to fall short of planned rollout

While the majority of emerging screen-media companies in India are assertively expanding, Tag Media Network has acknowledged that it will this spring achieve little more than half of its anticipated rollout.
