Convention centre creates giant screen
The Manchester Central convention centre in northern England has installed a high-profile digital-signage unit for exhibitors, advertisers and its own promotions.
UK firm Pixel Inspiration developed the system, which consists of six front-projection Supernova screens above the convention centre’s main reception area. The six displays are combined to create a single image more than 9m wide.
The firm also recently used the Supernova screens at Manchester Airport.
Amscreen inks five-year deal with UK sports centres
Amscreen, the UK digital-signage startup owned by Sir Alan Sugar, is rolling out its screens to 44 football centres run by Powerleague.
The five-year deal, which gives Amscreen exclusive rights to sell ads on the screens in Powerleague’s five-a-side football venues, comes just weeks after news of the firm beginning installations at Lloyds Pharmacy.

Onestop says hotel screens improve bottom line
Canadian hotels could see increased sales in services such as bars, restaurants, spas and in-room dining thanks to Onestop Media Group’s new digital-signage network, the company says.
The network, which will reach about 100 hotels across Canada when rollout is complete next year, has already generated double-digit sales uplift in some services for Skyline Boutique Hotels, with management saying that increased revenues are directly attributable to hotel-specific promotions appearing 
Touchscreen offers tourist information
Stratford District Council in New Zealand is using a touch-sensitive window display to deliver visitor information throughout the day and night.
A high-bright 32-inch LCD display inside the window of the town’s visitor centre is aligned with transparent touch film fixed to the window’s exterior. A light-adjustment system reduces or increases brightness according to the ambient light – allowing the unit to be sufficiently bright for visibility in full 
Bally buys CoolSign casino business
Casino giant Bally Technologies has acquired the gaming business of Planar Systems’ CoolSign division.
The deal, for an undisclosed amount, will see Bally integrate the CoolSign technology with its iView Display Manager, a system that lets casinos display networked messaging to players of slot machines, both on the screens of the machines themselves and on overhead displays.

OOH Media adds sites in India’s top restaurant cities
India’s OOH Media is expanding its restaurant network into properties owned by Blue Foods in major cities across the country.
About 100 screens are being installed at Blue Foods locations in Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. The company’s brands include Bombay Blue, Gelato, Noodle Bar and Spaghetti Kitchen.
Each screen will show a 12-minute loop, with eight minutes of advertising and four of content including music 
Digital signage aids quest for paper-free cinema
Showcase Cinemas in the UK is continuing to comprehensively equip its new multiplexes with digital signage.
The latest rollouts are at two new complexes – known as Cinemas De Lux – in the cities of Bristol and Leicester. The sites complement the cinema chain’s existing flagship in Derby, which opened in the summer.
Central to all three of the multiplex sites is a digital-signage system developed and installed 
Digital signage draws visitors into hot topics
The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology is using an interactive digital-signage system to enhance its exhibits.
Based on Scala software and deployed by Eytor Interaktiv Media along with Scala certified partner Kongsberg Intellifield, the system in the Oslo museum complements other innovations intended to deeply involve the public in the topics that it covers.
