TruMedia: “Industry needs privacy code”

The CEO of audience-measurement innovator TruMedia Technologies has called for the digital-signage sector to promise that companies will not store images of consumers or other information that could identify them.

Indian out-of-home startup plans mixed-media network

A new firm has been set up by two former senior executives of India's out-of-home advertising specialist Times Innovative Media (TIM).

The new company is called VIA OOH – standing for Vehicular, Infrastructure and Airports, the three focuses of the venture, which plans to establish  a network of premier properties in major cities, owning some of its sites and marketing others on behalf of third parties. The sites will

Dunnhumby names Tesco content partner

Tesco Screens, the digital-signage network of Britain's biggest retailer, has named Great Guns as its new content-production partner. The appointment of the London agency to replace former incumbent  Instrumental Media Group spells a final break with the origins of the network, originally known as Tesco TV.

Great Guns has worked for clients including Nike, the BBC, Boots, and Airtel. On the Tesco project it will now report to Dunnhumby,

CBS Outdoor moves into South America

CBS Outdoor has powered into the South American media market with the acquisition of the International Outdoor Advertising Group (IOA) for $110m in cash.

The move gives CBS immediate access to the booming billboard and signage markets of Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay and will, the company says, give it a leadership position in the fast-growing Latin American market.

Indian sector seen needing $200m investment

Mumbai-based  outdoor-advertising company Laqshya Media is gearing up for a fresh round of funding – as one commentator on India's screen media suggests the sector needs a $200m injection of private capital over the next two years.

According to local reports, Laqshya is discussion with several companies including Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse First Boston, but Warburg Pincus is being tipped to acquire a 15-20 percent equity

European investors “sceptical of screen media”

For companies located in and around Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area, it seems that if you throw a business proposal in the air, it’s likely to come back down and hit an investor on the head. Focus replaces Jason Jiang

The founder and CEO of Focus Media Holding - still the biggest digital-signage company in China despite competition snapping at its heels - has stepped down and handed over the day-to-day running of the business to the former CEO of Focus's poster-frame operation.

Replacing founder Jason Nanchun Jiang is Tan Zhi, formerly president of Focus. Jiang will remain as executive chairman and will continue to work for the company

A new education programme from Cisco will offer a qualification in creating, managing and distributing screen-media content.

A programme styled as the Cisco Academy of Digital Signage is aimed at media professionals looking to improve their job prospects, staffers at content-production houses, and Cisco resellers interested in the digital-signage market, the company said this week.

A three-day training programme will lead to a Cisco Qualified Digital Signage Media
