Bank to be first client for Wegener servers
Hard on the heels of unveiling its high-definition MPEG-4 signage server technology last month at the National Association of Broadcasters' convention, Wegener has landed its first major contract for the system with a major North American financial-services group.
While the identity of the client, which will be taking delivery of the screen-media systems in the third quarter of this year, remains confidential, the deal is worth $1.2m to Wegener.
World's biggest aquarium moves to InfoSignz software
Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, described as the world's largest, has chosen InfoSignz Technologies' display-management platform for its digital-signage network.
The network at the aquarium (pictured) has been deployed across 12 digital displays of different sizes. The deal marks Indian firm InfoSignz's first foray into the aquarium and amusement-park sector.

PPC to provide 3D content for Philips WOWvx users
The Picture Production Company (PPC), which has operations in the UK and the U.S., has been selected by Philips to develop content and what will effectively be a complete digital-signage system for the vendor's 3D WOWvx display technology.
PPC says it will convert two-dimensional content such as TV ads, programmes and other presentations for the 3D WOWvx screen system using Philips' BlueBox software suite, as well as creating what

The latest software release from Dutch digital-signage application specialist Netpresenter will support YouTube videos, Adobe Flash, and news tickers. Netpresenter 5.0 enables playback on PC desktops, as well as large-format displays.
Frank Hoen, CEO of Netpresenter, believes that we'll be seeing a lot more embedded YouTube clips broadcast on screen-media displays, opening the doors for user-generated content (UGC).

GPRS “cheaper and more flexible” than broadband
Managing screens via mobile-phone connections can work out cheaper and more flexible than using fixed-line broadband, says Britain's Remote Media.
The company is partnering with mobile-phone network operator Vodafone to enable users of its Signagelive software-as-a-service platform to reconfigure the physical layout of their screen-media networks without having to reroute fixed wiring. 
Use picture frames for easy signage, says PhotoVu
A U.S. vendor of digital picture frames believes its technology could be used for low-end digital-signage networks in small businesses.
PhotoVu, which sells 19- and 22-inch framed LCD units on which users can display images from a USB flash or hard drive, is now to offer the devices specifically for digital signage after finding that many customers were using them for that purpose, as pictured. 
Film opens window on hearing issues
Rear-projection film is being used to attract younger customers into a British hearing-aid store.
According to Paula Dowie, managing partner with Ignite Retail Design International, the decision to go with 3M's Vikuiti rear-projection film at Hidden Hearing's Tunbridge Wells branch near London was taken because it created an instant impact on passers-by.

Adobe bans its Media Player from digital-signage devices
Digital-signage networks using Adobe’s new Media Player to show content could be in breach of the software company’s licence agreement – as hundreds of networks already using Adobe’s Flash are also believed to be.
The licence for Media Player 1.0, released this week almost a year after its first announcement, states that it cannot be run on “any non-PC device or with any embedded or device version of any
