UK’s Co-op trialling MediaTile system

Southern Co-operatives’ recently refurbished store in the southern English town of Wickham has become a trial site for MediaTile’s Digital-Sign-In-A-Box system.

If the single-screen site is a success, the chain is looking to roll out the technology to at least four more of its stores. Nationally, the Co-op brand is one of the biggest retail users of digital signage in the UK, with at least 5500 screens, and this

Focus Enhancements goes into Chapter 11

Technology supplier Focus Enhancements has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. and been de-listed by the NASDAQ.

The company, which was traded under the ticker symbol FCSE, markets a number of AV and digital-media products such as media players for applications including digital signage.

Focus’s troubles appear to have come to a head on 15 September, when the NASDAQ exchange notified the company that its

1-2-1 View adds gender recognition

Singaporean digital-signage systems provider 1-2-1 View has added a gender-distinction feature to its viewer-validation software, meaning that its media players can now switch automatically to male- or female-appropriate content depending on who’s watching.

The company, which provides turnkey Linux-based systems, developed the functionality in-house rather than buying in technology from a firm such as Israel’s TruMedia, marketing communications manager Christopher Koh told SCREENS.tv.

Indian multiplexes integrate screens with ticketing

Indian cinema chain Adlabs is installing a digital-signage network from SureWaves, in the supplier’s first foray into the movie market.
 
Adlabs, a part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group conglomerate, has also deployed the SureWaves technology at its Adlabs Digital Cinema facility, where it powers an internal-communication network for employees and visitors.
 
The SureWaves system is managing the delivery of content to more than 150 LCD screens

Scala software to be built into gas pumps

Scala’s digital-signage software is to power the screens built into fuel dispensers by global gas-station equipment supplier Gilbarco Veeder-Root.

Gilbarco will use the Scala software in its new FlexPay CRIND (Card Reader In Dispenser) payment unit (pictured), which lets customers pay for their petrol at the pump.

This means some cars spend less time at the pump, because drivers do not have to go inside to pay, speeding

3D screens “will cost ten percent more than 2D”

Australia’s 3D Motion has stolen the march on many of its rivals in the northern hemisphere with a 3D screens system that does away with the need to wear special glasses.

Currently being trialled in Beyond Internet Gaming – a Sydney Internet cafe owned by the firm, which is also headquartered in the city – the 3D screens display a range of digital-signage content when not in use, but
