Quividi builds screen into retail scales
France's Quividi has joined forces with manufacturer Mettler Toledo to produce a set of retail scales with an embedded digital-signage display, saying that the screens can take advantage of scales' prominent positions on store counters.
The UC3-HTT is a fully functional set of scales featuring a 12-inch customer-facing screen and running Quividi's VidiReports software, which analyses audiences within a ten-foot radius captured by a built-in Webcam.

Thomson, Symon to bundle digital-signage tech
Thomson and Symon are to offer their digital-signage technologies together as a package.
Symon's TargetVision digital-signage software and Thomson Grass Valley's MediaEdge 3 video-delivery system will be marketed to schools, corporate users and retailers.
Included in the pairing will be Symon's Design Studio software and Professional Services as well as the Thomson MediaEdge 3 technology, which uses IP over a LAN to send video to PCs or set-top 
Cisco finds digital-signage market in schools, colleges
Networking supplier Cisco says schools and higher-education institutions have emerged as among the earliest users of its recently-upgraded Digital Media System in the U.S. and abroad.
Among the applications adopted by educational users are live broadcasts streamed into classrooms and dormitories, and on-campus digital signage displaying schedules, news and emergency messaging.

Future stores get gesture recognition
India's Future Media has tied up with camera-enabled gesture-recognition technology company GestureTek to put interactive displays in shop windows.
The displays, with a camera capturing movement and the on-screen image adjusting accordingly, have so far gone into three Future Group-owned retail formats – eight Pantaloon stores plus one each of Food Bazaar and Central.
Sites include malls in Mumbai, Pune, Lucknow, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai, all 
U.S. sales house switches to RMS system for serving ads
U.S. digital out-of-home sales house Charter Digital Media is to use RMS Networks' rVue system to serve ads to its displays.
Charter handles sales and marketing for some 50,000 screens in more than 4700 locations across the U.S., including the video-store chains Hollywood Video and Movie Gallery (pictured); the OnTrack network at racecourses and related sites; the Casino Channel in Las Vegas; and the Port Authority screen in New 
Visix appliance “far cheaper than PC media player”
Visix, producer of the AxisTV software package, this week launches its first digital-signage appliance.
The device can display still images and video as well as play audio, and supports RSS and XML inputs.
Managed through AxisTV, the Linux-based device will cost “nearly 50 percent less than a full-blown PC media player”, said Visix.
It will be available from 1 July through resellers and direct from Visix.
Largest LCD goes on sale in Europe
Sharp's 108-inch LCD screen, the largest currently available, goes on sale in Europe from today. The first orders have been placed by Lang, a German monitor-rental company, said Sharp.
Street price is around €120,000 ($186,000).
The unit became available earlier this month in Japan, with the first customer being Tokyo multiplex Shinjuku Piccadilly, according to reports. The cinema will use it to show movie trailers and ads from 
InfoComm: tech partnerships and a PC on a board
Linking two companies' technologies together to create a new digital-signage system appeared to be in vogue at last week's InfoComm event in Las Vegas.
In one such partnership, Thomson's MediaEdge3 DS digital-signage platform is to be enhanced with the addition of Stratacache's ActiVia for Media software.
The Stratacache product already forms the basis of the Prodokol workflow software from Thomson's Technicolor unit, which was a Convergent product before
